🛣️ The Weekend That Changed Everything: Are We Really Going Full-Time RV’ing?

From Curiosity to Commitment in Just 48 Hours

Over the past year, our travels have sparked something deep inside us—a craving for more. More time on the road. More time as a family. More time exploring places we’ve never seen. That spark turned into something serious in November 2024, when a short weekend getaway to Omaha unexpectedly shifted our entire future.

What started as a simple visit to check out some RVs ended with a decision that would shape the rest of our lives. And today, we’re sharing that story.

Why Omaha?

It might not be the first place you think of for a life-changing decision, but Omaha was the perfect setting. We had been watching full-time RV travel vlogs for months, dreaming and researching on late nights. But we knew we couldn’t move forward without seeing RVs in person—what if they felt too cramped? Too unrealistic?

So we hit the road to visit Lazydays RV in Council Bluffs, Iowa, just across the river from downtown Omaha. We were most curious about the Grand Design Solitude line of fifth wheels—something that checked our boxes for comfort, layout, and build quality.

And the moment we stepped into those RVs? It clicked.

A Day of Discovery — and a Lot of Walking

After spending the morning walking through models and getting excited about the possibilities, we shifted gears and explored the city.

  • Lewis & Clark National Historic Trail Visitor Center offered not only a great museum experience but also a symbolic walk across the Bob Kerrey Pedestrian Bridge—literally crossing into a new chapter of life.
  • Of course, we stopped by to say hi to Omar the Troll under the bridge!
  • Later, we explored Kenefick Park, home to two massive Union Pacific locomotives, and strolled through the beautifully landscaped Memorial Park.
  • Before heading home, we hiked a bit at Platte River State Park, climbing the Lincoln Journal Star Observation Tower to take in stunning Nebraska views.

It was the perfect blend of exploration, reflection, and decision-making.

So… Did We Decide to Go Full-Time?

By the time we pulled back into our driveway in Central Nebraska, our answer was clear:
Yes. We’re going full-time RV.

That drive home was filled with conversation—about jobs, our house, homeschooling, family, and the road ahead. Over the next few weeks, we began making real changes: shifting work plans, talking to our kids, and beginning the hunt for the right RV and the right truck to tow it.

It’s scary. It’s exciting. And we’re finally ready to take the leap.
